ABOUT
Anne Kulakowski, Somatic Psychotherapist
Hi, I'm Anne (she/her/hers).
I'm, glad you're here.

I’ve been a Somatic Psychotherapist for almost 20 years. My work brings me a lot of joy and I’d be honored to walk with you in your journey of healing and growth. I am a specialist in anxiety and work with anxiety across the lifespan (from new parents and babies to young children to teens to adults).
In the early 2000’s I arrived at Naropa University, a small Buddhist university in Boulder, Colorado, for an interview in the MFA program for writing. During my interview, I had an inspiring conversation with the director of the program and by the end of it, had changed life direction and scheduled a different interview the same day for entrance into the Somatic Psychology department. I’m grateful for that shift and have never looked back.
My Background
Before I started my private practice, I was Director of the School Based Counseling Program at the (former) Boston Institute for Psychotherapy in Brookline, MA. I led a team of 30 clinicians doing psychodynamic work with children in the Boston Public School system. Prior to that, I was a clinician in the same program, working with children at the Rafael Hernandez K-8 Two Way Bilingual School in Roxbury, MA, combining my love for therapy with another love, speaking Spanish. I was the Institute’s only Somatic Psychotherapist at the time and combined this with psychodynamic therapy and sand tray therapy for. During this time, I was a lecturer on Somatic Psychotherapy in the School Based Fellowship program at the Boston Graduate School for Psychoanalysis and gave guest lectures on Somatic Psychotherapy at Wheelock College in Boston, MA.
Prior to my time at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy, I completed a two-year training program at The Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Center of Washington, D.C. I am a 200h yoga teacher and weave somatic practices into my yoga classes and yoga into my clinical somatic work. I also have a certification in Feng Shui and have worked extensively with individuals and businesses to create home environments that are reflective of their spirit and soul. Prior to becoming a Somatic Psychotherapist, I was an Occupational Therapist in Psychiatry, Early Intervention, and medical settings, an experience which gave me competence in working with the psycho emotional impacts of physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, and other disturbances to a person’s health and body.
Influences & Inspiration
My work is influenced by Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Christine Caldwells’ Moving Cycle, Stephen Proges’ Polyvagal Theory, Deb Dana’s clinical applications of the Polyvagal Theory, Sharon and Rudy Bauer’s interpretation of Gestalt Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Somatic Parts Work, Arielle Schwartz’s interpretations of the Polyvagal Theory and yoga, Buddhism, mindfulness, yoga, and yoga therapy.
My clients find me to be professional, warm, “real,” and grounded. Outside of work I enjoy baking pies, practicing yoga, making nature mandalas with my two children, skiing and hiking, making art, singing, combing second-hand stores, and writing letters.
